On Sunday, August 7, the biggest rollerblading event this year in Latvia that took place in Jūrmala – Spice rollerblade marathon – gathered yet unseen in Latvia number of rollerbladers. More than 1000 participants took part in the race. Thus, the number of participants of Spice rollerblade marathon, as compared with the last year, has doubled.
Three distances were available within the frameworks of the race: sports or 42 km, nation’s or 14 km, and Maxima Favorit children’s ride (1 km).
The rollerblade marathon gathered many guests from abroad this year. Representatives from Estonia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, as well as Venezuela participated in the rollerblade marathon.
In the 42 km sports distance in men’s competition representatives from Switzerland took the first three places, breaking away from the closest followers by approximately nine minutes. Nicolas Iten/ Swiss Skate Team (01:07:46.70) was the first to finish, Severin Widmer/ Swiss Skate Team (01:07:46.90) was runner-up, but Michael Acherman/ Swiss Skate Team (01:07:46.95) took the third place. Representative of Venezuela Alfredo Leon Morer/ Uus Maa/ Rollerblade (01:17:12.10) finished as the forth, representative of Russia Nikolay Yugay/Team Russia (01:17:14.45) was the fifth, but Estonian Kert Keskpaik/ Albe Team/Bont (01:17:14.65) took the sixth place.
In 42 km sports distance in women’s competition Slovenian Renata Karabova/IDEEprint-EOskate (01:20:40.80) took the first place, Ukrainian Anna Pletenetska/SAM Roller Club (01:20:41.45) was runner-up, but Estonian Enel Korva/ Rollerblade Top Team came in third. Representative of Latvia Laima Kaufiņa/ ASI/ ski-box (01:20:45.15) finished as the forth, Slovenian Renata Zmijova/ RKIC IDEEprint Team (01:23:07.90) was the fifth, but Estonian Elena Ruusu/ Schankel/Simmons (01:25:04.05) took the sixth place.
Spice rollerblade marathon was simultaneously also Latvian championship in rollerblading. In men’s competition Ansis Eljašans (01:17:15.85) got the golden medal, Kaspars Klibiķis (01:17:19.45) – the silver medal, but Lauris Bitenieks (01:17:19.90) – the bronze. In women’s competition Laima Kaufiņa (01:20:45.15) got the golden medal, Jekaterina Kotello (01:29:49.50) – the silver medal, but Antra Zemīte (1:45:51.60) – the bronze.
In 14 km distance in men’s competition Indrek Tobrelucs/ Albe Team/Bont (00:24:18.75) took the first place, runner-up – representative of Latvia Armands Zariņš/ SK Apex (00:26:14.30), but Kristaps Blūms took the third place. In 14 km distance in women’s competition Ukrainian Anna Sviridova/ SAM Roller Club (00:28:43.95) was the fastest and took the first place, runner-up – Latvian Ieva Pildiņa/ SK Apex, but Slovenian Martina Karabova/ RKIC IDEEprint Team (00:29:57.05) came in third.
Organizer of the event – Lauris Špillers, Chairman of the Board at the marketing communication agency “Alpha Baltic” Ltd – said with satisfaction for the successful race: “Thanks to all who participated and chose to spend an active weekend in Jūrmala. Also the weather was especially pleasant today. When looking around we can see happy and satisfied people, it gives additional stimulus to continue what we have commenced. I believe that next year there will be even more participants in the Spice rollerblade marathon.”
It should be noted that already after two weeks, i.e. on August 21, the Panadol MTB marathon will take place with three distances – 40 km, 90 km and Maxima Favorit children’s ride. Run half-marathon is also planned within the frameworks of the marathon series, it will take place on September 11. www.maratoni.lv.
