Already fourteen UCI (International Cycling Union) continental and national teams from the Great Britain, Russia, Germany, Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Algeria, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Belarus, as well as Latvia have confirmed their participation in the Jūrmala Grand Prix 2012 race that will take place on May 19.
Some of the strongest teams of UCI Europe Tour – RusVelo and Farnese Vini-Selle Italia – will participate.
Kaspars Tupiņš, organizer of Jūrmala Grand Prix and Director of Alpha Baltic Sport, said: “We are proud that Russian team RusVelo and team representing the Great Britain Farnese Vini-Selle Italia have confirmed their participation in the Jūrmala Grand Prix race. These are teams that do not require explanations to those who are well acquainted with cycling sport. National teams of different countries will also be widely represented.”
Raphael Schweda, Manager of RusVelo team, notes: “Our team goes to Jūrmala Grand Prix with big hopes so that we could step even higher in the UCI ranking. It should be noted that last week was very successful for us – we got the first place in the Vuelta a Madrid race, but in the 5 Rings of Moscow race – the second and the third place. These victories will help us to step higher in the rating table. We hope that our series of victories will continue also in Jūrmala.”
Francesco Pelosi, Press Secretary of Farnese Vini-Selle Italia team, notes: “RusVelo is a strong team that we will have to count with in the Jūrmala Grand Prix race. However, Franese Vini-Selle Italia is a team ready for breakaway, we always use the opportunity to get closer to the competitors, and therefore we anticipate that we will finish this race with good results. We also hope that this race will be a great opportunity to get ready for the next races that are planned for Franese Vini-Selle Italia in near future.”
Two teams will represent Latvia in the race - Alpha Baltic/Unitymarathons.com and Rietumu-Delfin. Also German Team Specialized Concept Store, Romanian Tusnad Cycling Team, Ukrainian ISD-Lampere Continental team, Slovakian Dukla Trencin Trek team, as well as national teams of Russia, Algeria, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, and Belarus have confirmed their participation.
Nikolay Myrza, General Manager of ISD-Lampere Continental team, emphasizes: “It is an unexpected surprise for us that Latvia organizes cycling race of such high level. We are sure that Jūrmala Grand Prix will be a very professionally organized race. We have not had time yet to get acquainted with the plan of the route, as well as competitor teams, but we will definitely try to win this race.”
