Objective
- Popularising skiing as an active winter pastime and type of sport;
- increasing the excellence of Latvian distance skiers;

- increase the number of tourist in Latvia.

The competition is organized by SIA Alpha Baltic Sport in cooperation with Sports Club Alauksts.

Regulations of FIS
The competition has been included in the Euroloppet 2013 skiing calendar and it is being organised according to the rules of the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Programme of the competition
The competition takes place on 2 February 2013 by Alauksts Lake.
The star/finish area is in Vecpiebalga (Latvia), on the bank of Alauksts Lake by open-air stage.
7:00 – beginning of registration of participants and receiving numbers;8:30 – registration for 42 km marathon ends;
09:00 – registration for children race ends;
10:00 – start for 42 km marathon;
10:30 – start for children race;
11:30 – registration for 19 km distance ends;
11:45 – finish for Children race;
13:00 – start for 19 km skiing;
12:00 – 16:00 – finish for 42 km marathon;
13:30 – 15:00 – finish for 19 km distance;
16:00 – prize ceremony
After every finish awarding ceremony for each race first three places.

Registration
Participants of the competition having Euroloppet passport shall present it upon registration.
- Application in advance for competition takes place till 30th January, 24:00.

- Organizations and teams may receive the invoice and settle the payment by transfer by e-mailing the application to sport@alphabaltic.lv. Payment for the invoice shall be settled not later than 3 days prior to the competition
- Registration on the Day of Competition
On the day of competition registration takes place in registration tent in the start/finish area on the bank of Alauksts Lake by open-air stage.

Tracks
- 42 km marathon (21 km x 2 circuits). Start at 10:00. The tracks are marked in rough terrain. Points for water and catering are located for the entire length of the tracks. Time limit for performing first lap is 3 hours. Time limit for performing distance is 6 hours. Skiing technique- free technique.
- 19 km skiing. Start at 13:00. The tracks are marked in rough terrain. Points for water and catering are located on the tracks. Time limit for performing distance is 4.5 hours. Skiing technique- free technique.
- Children race. Start at 10:30. Track location – competition start/finish area.

Participation fee

- If the participant wants to re-register to other distance, full participation fee determined by the organizers shall be settled.
- If the competition is cancelled due to force majeure (insufficient amount of snow, air temperature exceeds the acceptable level), the participation fee is not refunded.

Participation fee includes
- catering after finishing;
- medical aid in the area of competition and distance;
- security services in the area of competition;
- valuable prizes from sponsors and supporters of the event;
- number of the participant;
- parking;
- programme for entertainment of viewers.

Responsibility of the participants
- Participants who have registered in advance are allowed to obtain their start number 30 minutes before the respective skiing.
- Participants who are registering on the race day have to obtain their start number 1,5 h before the respective skiing.
- Participant’s start number shall be obtained in the registration tent 30 minutes before the respective skiing!
- The number must be attached above clothing on chest and back for it to be clearly visible during the entire skiing.
- The issued special chip for time measurement and determination of result must be attached above the ankle of the right foot.
- After finishing the chip must be returned immediately (specialists servicing the skiing will remove it). Fine for not returning the chip is 15 LVL/22 EUR.
If the participant fails to carry out any of the abovementioned activities, the result will not be recorded and entered.

Filling in start positions
- The participants of the competition shall occupy their places in start corridors according to last year results.
- Participants of the competition with Euroloppet passport and organizers invited participants shall occupy the places in Corridor 2.
- Participants of the Children’s race receive their start positions in the Corridors according to their year of birth.

Valuation of teams
- For 42 km skiing an unlimited number of participants may be included in a team.
- The sum of the times of the 3 best participants form the team result.
- For 19 km skiing an unlimited number of participants may be included in a team.
- The sum of the times of 3 best participants form the team result.
- Also individual results of team members are taken into consideration.
- Citizenship of participants is not restricted.
- Teams members are counted irrespective of gender.

Prize ceremony
- Participants, who have participated in the skiing Around Alauksts (Apkārt Alaukstam) and successfully completed distance 10, 15 and 20 times, will receive souvenir medals.
- NB! All participants must participate in prize giving ceremony. Prizes won’t be issued after prize giving ceremony!
- The prize money may be issued in LVL according to the Bank of Latvia set exchange rate
- Money prizes will be issued by transfer to the according person’s bank account

General provisions
- NB! Participants who doesn’t attend prize ceremony, doesn’t receive prizes
- Each participant of the competition, upon receiving the number, shall confirm with a signature that he or she assumes full liability that he or she is fit enough to complete the distance.
- All advertising and promotions have to be adjusted with marathon organizers. If advertising isn’t adjusted- penalty- 500 LVL
- The prize money may be issued in LVL according to the Bank of Latvia set exchange rate
- Money prizes will be issued by transfer to the according person’s bank account
- The participants of the competition shall present identification document (passport, driver’s license) upon receiving prize money.
- The organizers of the competition are not responsible for possible traumas of participants during competition.
- By applying to the competition all participants confirm their agreement to with taken during the competition being used for marketing and advertisement activities.
- Participants will be disqualified in the event of unwarranted shortcut of the distance.
- The panel of the referees together with organizers are entitled to decide upon issues not referred to in the regulations of the competition.
- Organizers are not responsible in the event the participants are unaware or do not comply with the regulations.
- Organizations and teams may receive the invoice and settle the payment by transfer. The invoice shall be paid 3 days before the competitions.
- Settled participation fee is not refunded to participants, who are unable to take part in the competition.
- The penalty for using an unauthorised number is annulment of the result.
- Doping control may be performed during the competition.
- During performing the distance the participants of the competition must not affect other participants and their results with their activities.
- Any participant of the competition, who considers that he or she has been somehow impeded before crossing the finish line, may submit a claim to the head referee. The claim must be submitted in writing within 15 minutes after completing own skiing by paying 20 LVL/29 EUR in information tent.
- Results will be published in www.maratoni.lv.
